PREVIOUS MEETING

The Department of Physiology of Walter Sisulu University hosted the 38th meeting of the Physiology Society of Southern Africa from 27-29 September 2010. The theme of the conference was: “Using community based research towards solving scientific challenges in the 21st century.”

Prof Charles Muller delivered the opening address with the title: “Sperm Tales: How disease and environment affect fertility and the next generation.”

Other invited speakers include Prof Alastair Sammons from Scotland who delivered an excellent presentation on “The upper GI function in the Eastern Cape and its relevance to the high incidence of oesophageal cancer” as well as Dr Siyanda Makaula from the University of the Witwatersrand who discussed “the principles and benchmarks for ethical research in developing countries”.
